  It's pretty basic compared to some other parks I've been in in large cities. But there's a nice wood chip covered play ground for kids that includes swings, slides, poles to slide down, etc. There is plenty of space to run and play sports. There is also a gazebo that is used for music presentations and other things. There are picnic tables next to the gazebo that people frequently use for birthday parties or to sit and read. There is also a picnic table next to the Creeper Trail between the walking bridge that crosses Holston River and the caboose. One part that is not easily seen and almost never used is a small picnic area next to the Veterans Memorial that's across the street from the library. To get there, you have to walk through the Veterans Memorial, toward the park. The picnic area is in a lower wooded part between the park's walking trail and the river. I actually just recently discovered it as I was walking around the Veterans Memorial. The picnic tables are older. You may want to bring table cloths to cover them.
